Case Study
Flooring products manufacturer requires shipping rolls of product in a unique fashion.
Current Packaging
Standard 40×48 wooden pallets with a linerboard over the top surface of the pallet.
Rolls are “squooshed” together standing vertically, and stretch-wrapped together.
Rolls tend to droop and waver on a pallet, leaving unbalanced rolls that are difficult to unload.
Packaging Solution
GT+Plastics USA created a custom plastic pallet – utilizing positioning “spools” built into the pallet top surface.
A pallet allows for cleaner and better cubing of the trailer for shipment, and easier storage of pallets in use within the warehouse.
Rolls are protected better and are easier to load and unload.
Benefits / Results
- Customer can ship up to 18% more product in a trailer, with product better protected.
- Multi-use pallet provides unique storage & shipping solution that also reduces total cost-per-use.
Case Study
Retailer has many retail stores across the country; daily deliveries of product go to stores.
Current Packaging
Products are delivered by company delivery trucks, on 40×48 wooden pallets that driver and store personnel must break-down.
Space for storage within stores is minimal and no large areas are present to work in.
If deliveries must be made during store hours, impact on consumers at the store could be negative.
Packaging Solution
With such a limited space situation, GT+Plastics USA worked with the customer to develop a “mini” pallet – 24×22 in size – that could hold the majority of items shipped to store, and be transported off the truck by the driver by using either a small hand jack or a dolly.
“Mini” pallets can be kept in the back area of the store until next delivery (if needed).
Benefits / Results
- Customer can load up to 33% more product into one delivery truck.
- Driver delivery times have been reduced by up to 40%, with little to no disruption to the consumer.
- Pallet provides a cost-per-use savings of up to 45% versus prior shipping method.
